Summary

A Life Unburdened: Overcoming Depression in Older Adults

Guest Speaker: Ella Guy and Sheera Gerber

Sheera Gerber is a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in Psychiatry at New York Presbyterian - Westchester. She began her career as a nursing assistant on an inpatient psychiatry unit in 2012 while she simultaneously went to nursing school. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2017 at College of New Rochelle, then worked as a staff nurse on an inpatient psychiatry unit for 4 years. From 2020-2021 she was a Covid Psychiatry nurse, and in 2021, she earned her Master of Science degree from Stony Brook University and transitioned to working as a Clinical Nurse Manager in the Admitting Department at New York Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health for patients age 5yo-100yo. She holds a national board certification with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as psychiatric nurse practitioner across the lifespan.

Ella Guy is a nurse practitioner who specializes in adult-geriatric medicine and palliative care at New York Presbyterian - Westchester. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2007 at College of Mount Saint Vincent, then worked as a staff nurse in a medical-surgical unit for eight years. In 2015, she earned her Master of Science degree from New York University and worked in long-term care facilities as a primary care provider for Medicare eligible patients, as well as in an inpatient psychiatric unit for adults and elderly patients before joining the Geriatrics - Palliative care team at NYP-Westchester in 2021. She holds a national board certification with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as an adult-geriatric nurse practitioner.
